Homeopathy works on a “like cures like” principle, meaning that the substance which can cause a symptom in a healthy person may help treat it in someone who is unwell. For example, one key remedy we use to support restful sleep is Coffea cruda (Coffee), which can actually calm an overactive mind and help you drift off naturally. To get you started, here are my top 5 remedies for acute sleep issues.

  1. Coffea Cruda As I said, like cures like so if rather than feeling calm and rested, you feel jittery and restless (just like if you had too much coffee) then I would recommend Coffea Cruda. It is ideal for those with an overactive mind who find it difficult to switch off at night. Often used when mental excitement or too much caffeine prevents sleep.

  2. Nux Vomica Often sleep issues are connect ed to gut issues so if you are feeling bloated, gassy, constipated or diarrhea, Nux Vomica may help, particularly if you feel too hot in bed. This is suited for people who wake in the early hours due to stress, overwork, or lifestyle factors such as coffee, alcohol, or rich food.

  3. Arsenicum Album Yep, this is Arsenic! Guess what, if you take Arsenic in its crude form, you will be too anxious to sleep. So if you are already too anxious to sleep, what should you take? Thats right, Arsenic in its diluted form. it works a dream (haha) at calming the mind. It's ideal for those anxious or restless sleepers who wake up feeling uneasy, often around midnight or later. This remedy is great for people who feel too cold in bed and get thirsty at night.

  4. Melatonin - Unlike conventional melatonin supplements, the homeopathic form is ultra-diluted, working subtly with the body to encourage restful sleep without causing drowsiness the next day or dependency.

  5. Narayani Mix Sleep This is an amazing mix that I highly recommend. You can get from Helios or Ainsworth Pharmacy and it is definitely worth a try. It has a combination of Coffea, Daphne Indica, Kali Phos and Passiflora. A good one if you are unsure which other remedy to take for sleep.

It is important to note that if the insomnia is a long standing, chronic condition, I would advise working with a trained Homeopath to treat the root cause. I am happy to help so please contact me to arrange your consultation.
