Gradual Eczema Support Plan (Steroid Reduction with Natural Cream)

If you’re ready to support your skin naturally and reduce reliance on steroid creams, a gradual, guided approach can make all the difference. Mixing your steroid with a natural cream over time — starting with a small proportion and slowly increasing the natural component — can help your skin transition more gently while homeopathic support works to restore balance from within.

I first learned this method from Hilary Dorian while studying Homeopathy at CHE, and she has seen excellent results with her patients using this approach. I also applied it with my daughter, and we haven’t needed to use any of our diluted steroid cream for around two months. She still has some areas of eczema, but the flare-ups are far less aggressive and much less frequent.

If you’d like to explore a gradual, personalised plan for supporting eczema naturally, get in touch to discuss how this approach could work for you or your child.

Goal: Support your skin to heal naturally while gradually reducing reliance on steroid creams. This plan should only be followed under the guidance of the qualified medical professional who has prescribed the steroid and a qualified Homeopath.

Important Notes:

  • Always mix a small portion at a time; do not store pre-mixed steroid/cream for long periods.

  • Apply the mixed cream immediately after preparation.

  • Use only natural, gentle emollients such as coconut oil.

  • Monitor your skin carefully for any flare-ups or irritation.

  • Adjust pace if flare-ups are severe; slower reduction is safer.

Week 0 – Starting Point

  • Use your prescribed steroid cream as usual.

  • Begin your chosen homeopathic remedy to support skin healing.

Week 1–2 – First Mix

  • Take a small jar and mix 90% steroid cream with 10% natural cream.

  • Apply to affected areas as usual.

  • Continue homeopathic support and gentle skin care.

Week 3–4 – Increase Natural Cream

  • Prepare a new mixture: 80% steroid cream + 20% natural cream.

  • Apply as before.

  • Monitor skin response and adjust if flare-ups occur.

Week 5–6 – Further Reduction

  • Mix 70% steroid cream + 30% natural cream.

  • Continue daily application to affected areas, alongside homeopathic remedies.

Week 7–8 – Midpoint

  • Mix 60% steroid cream + 40% natural cream.

  • Apply carefully; note any changes in redness, itchiness, or discomfort.

Week 9–10 – Nearing Transition

  • Mix 50% steroid cream + 50% natural cream.

  • Homeopathic support continues; use emollients for extra hydration.

Week 11–12 – Maintenance Phase

  • Mix 40% steroid cream + 60% natural cream, moving toward mostly natural cream.

  • After week 12, most applications can be primarily natural cream, with steroid reserved for acute flare-ups if needed.

Patient Tips:

  • Always apply mixed cream immediately after preparing.

  • Keep a diary of symptoms — redness, itching, and general wellbeing.

  • Temporary flare-ups are normal and part of the healing process.

  • Adjust pace if flare-ups are severe; slower reduction is safer.
